Artist Name: Ray Stansel
Medium/Technique: Wood Sculptures & Jewelry
Ray started carving 25 years ago doing mainly decoys on the Chesapeake Bay, and has competed in major competitions throughout the years. He moved to Nashville in 2010 and has continued his carving and wood turning. In 2015, Ray won the award for Second Best in Show-Decorative Shore Bird in the Rappahannock River Waterfowl Show. He is a member of the Tennessee Association of Wood Turners, American of Wood Turners and the Leiper’s Fork Carving Club.
Ray Stansel resides in middle Tennessee and is a full time wood sculptor and turner. Ray carves intricate birds and details the entire piece, down to the veins in the feathers. He takes great pains to paint the detail as it identifies to the bird. His feather earrings and pins are loved by all, and also are created with the same detail as his sculptures.
